Medieval Festival,

Bayeux, France

01 Jul 2009 - 31 Jul 2009 Date to be confirmed

The town famous for its tapestry hosts a medieval festival in the venerable streets surrounding its twin-spired, Norman-Gothic cathedral. The centre of Bayeux transforms itself over a weekend into a living theatre of medieval life. A street market offers a taste of the goods and goodies of the Middle Ages, and also provides a showcase for the skills of more than 100 traditional craftsmen in the costumes of ages past. Stiltwalkers and jugglers entertain the crowds and take part in processions, joined by troubadours, jesters, crusaders, and a cavalcade of knights in armour. Even the local taverns enter into the spirit of the occasion, serving up medieval grub. Around 40,000 people turn up to join in the fun of a festival which adds a new attraction every year.
