Merchant's Bridge Festival,

Erfurt, Germany

19 Jun 2010 - 21 Jun 2010

Erfurt has one of the best-preserved medieval centres in Germany, including the 'Kramerbrucke', or Merchant's Bridge, a stone arched structure over the Gera River, constructed in 1325. The houses and shops which line the bridge are still in use today. Each year, Erfurt plays host to the largest old-town festival in the region. Over a long weekend there is plenty of activity around the bridge, with participants on horseback and on foot dressed in medieval costume. A festive mood fills the streets, where the crowds enjoy music and art exhibitions, with street entertainers and mime artists, craftsmen and market traders, all in an impressive historic setting.
