Tomar Festivities of the Holy Ghost,

Originally a fertility ritual, the Festivities of the Holy Ghost is a religious festival during which white-clad 'Virgins' carry ornamental trays laden with bread and decorative flowers through the town. Young children dressed in their smartest clothes also take part in the procession carrying food baskets and floral displays of their own. Feasting begins on Easter Sunday after the laying of Holy Spirit Wreaths at local churches.
