Heidelberg Castle Festival (Schlossfestspiele),

Heidelberg, Germany

01 Jun 2010 - 31 Aug 2010 Date to be confirmed

High above the fabled town on the River Neckar, Heidelberg's magnificent castle dominates the majestic scene. Among its unique and evocative buildings and grounds, the season of plays and concerts of the Schlossfestspiele are staged. In the verdant landscapes and sleepy hollows of the castle gardens, the players of Heidelberg Theatre spin their magic. The setting is indeed a magical one, and the artistic concept is to incorporate the existing atmosphere into the performances - to unify the castle's settings and backdrops with the dialogue, action and music. Sigmund Romberg's classic operetta 'The Student Prince' has received the unique Heidelberg treatment on more than one occasion, as have many of Shakespeare's plays, and there have been premieres of less familiar works. Children are entertained with special theatrical performances, and there is a series of concerts in the courtyard by Heidelberg's celebrated Philharmonic Orchestra.
