Bloomsday Festival,

Dublin, Ireland

01 Jun 2010 - 30 Jun 2010 Date to be confirmed

The popular Bloomsday Festival is a celebration of the life of the Dublin-born writer James Joyce. One of his most famous characters was Leopold Bloom who, in 'Ulysses', meandered through the streets of Dublin on a route that is followed by participants in the festival, with readings and re-enactments along the way. Other locations from Joyce's pages are visited, films are shown and the Balloonatics Theatre Company brings Joyce to the city streets and squares. Many participants dress up for the walks and other convivial activities which connect in some way with Ulysses and its world. Bloomsday Festival celebrations go on for a week, with most of the attention on the day itself. A season of literary events follows the Bloomsday Festival and runs throughout June.
