Villa de Mazo Corpus Christi,

Villa de Mazo, Spain

15 Jun 2010

The day of Corpus Christi is celebrated throughout Spain with processions, often along streets decorated with flowers. In the little town of Villa de Mazo, they go one step further, making carpets, passages, halls, and, the signature of the town, archways, along the processional route. In the days and weeks before, the people have been busy gathering materials for this most colourful of fiestas, from the hills, countryside and the coastline. Flowers, shells, sand, petals, ears of corn, seeds, moss and all manner of natural materials are dried and used by ingenious craftsmen to decorate the streets and especially to create the impressive arches.
